“Self-improvement is masturbation, but self-destruction…”
These lines from F**** C*** may get you confused at first.
We might question this statement as some stupid movie gig, but it does carry weight
When was the last time you asked yourself this question “who am I doing this for”?
You are improving yourself constantly, dreaming of a better job, more money, skincare, eating healthy, all that stuff is making you glow and I am super proud of that.
But WHY are we doing this?
During school or college, we sometimes do stuff just to fit in with a certain group of people,
We got through the fear of missing out
Which is fine, all of us have done some things in the past which we regret doing now,
Don’t you find both the paths of self-improvement and FOMO the same?
This constant case of being perfect is like the constant need to fit in with others
if your end goal is to achieve materialistic wealth and social status paved by others, are you truly improving yourself or are you just following what others have done before?
Here is where self-destruction comes into play
Self-destruction Is the destruction of a false self
In the movie, Tyler Durden said, “I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say let’s evolve, Let the chips fall where they may.”
This statement signifies detachment from a false self, the feeling that you are not good enough, the feeling that you will need to please everyone around you to get what you want, and the feeling that you need to constantly improve yourself to match others will drain you.
Instead, focus on the act of letting go of fears, negative self-talk & all types of worldly distractions,
Focus on being attached towards a higher goal or purpose in life and detach yourself from materialistic happiness & emotionally draining connections, as everything is temporary in life
This does not mean becoming a heartless, cold person, it means accepting that everything in life is temporary, including your good and bad moments in life
Accepting life as it is and focusing on a bigger goal , is the true way to achieve real freedom in life .
